Diwali is my favourite time of year. There’s something truly magical about the festive season—it's a blend of excitement, anticipation, and warmth that fills not only our homes but also our hearts. At Spree, this season means more than just designing clothes; it’s about capturing the essence of Diwali and reflecting it in every stitch, every pattern, and every piece we create.
The weeks leading up to Diwali are the busiest and most exhilarating time for us at Spree. Our office transforms into a buzzing hub of creativity, with everyone—from designers to tailors—working in perfect harmony. There’s a sense of purpose and joy in the air, a shared commitment to creating something special for our clients. This is when Spree truly comes alive.
Diwali at Spree: The Heart of the Festive Spirit
Preparing for Diwali is an all-hands-on-deck affair. The studio is filled with the hum of sewing machines, the rustle of fabrics, and the chatter of ideas being exchanged. It’s a beautiful chaos. Everyone is focused, yet there’s a palpable sense of excitement as we see our festive collection come to life.
For us, the Diwali collection is more than just garments; it’s our way of celebrating the festival. Each design is inspired by the joy and togetherness that Diwali brings. We think about the laughter shared with loved ones, the glowing diyas that light up our homes, and the vibrant colours of rangolis that adorn our doorsteps. We ask ourselves: how can we translate these feelings into our clothes?
Creating the Festive Collection: A Labour of Love
This year, our festive collection was all about celebrating the spirit of Diwali in every sense. We wanted to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful—clothes that resonate with the celebratory mood yet are subtle enough to be cherished for years to come.
Take the Ethereal Vine Kurta, for example. It’s one of my favourites this season. The delicate embroidery, reminiscent of the intricate vines and florals we see in traditional Diwali decorations, tells a story of elegance and tradition. It’s a bold piece, yet it carries a softness that I love—a quiet statement of grace.
Then there’s the Verdant Appliqué Dress. This dress is all about movement and flow, much like the festive season itself. The finely appliquéd details make it a piece that stands out without being loud. It’s the perfect choice for someone who wants to look effortlessly elegant, whether they’re at a family gathering or a Diwali party.
Challenges and Rewards: A Personal Reflection
Diwali at Spree is both challenging and deeply fulfilling. There are moments when it feels overwhelming—the long hours, the constant hustle, the pressure to get everything just right. But then I see a client try on one of our pieces, and I see their face light up, and it’s all worth it. Each smile is like a diya lighting up my heart. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do.
Aradhana and I have shared countless Diwalis together, both as sisters and as co-founders. Some of my favourite memories are of us brainstorming designs late into the night, surrounded by sketches and swatches, fuelled by endless cups of coffee and our shared passion for creating something beautiful. Those moments of creativity and connection are what make this time of year so special for me.
Celebrating Diwali, the Spree Way
This Diwali, we hope to bring a little bit of that joy and excitement to you through our collection. Each piece is crafted with care, designed to make you feel as radiant as the festival itself.
